Wordless Wednesday

I have to put a few words for today's  Wordless Wednesday because this will be my last post for a little while. Come next week I will be enjoying the sun in Greece and I will have very little access to a computer. For this week's selection of Etsy artisans I've chosen people who are creating in beautiful Greece.

Father's Day

June 20th.....everyone remembers what day that is, right? Yup. Father's Day! If you've been searching for ideas for something to give to your special father, you know I will always recommend something from Etsy. I'm constantly impressed with the unique quality items you can find there. How about these:

My husband's own special gift list includes a Dahon foldable bike. Well....if I happen to win the lottery soon it will be the first purchase I make for my favorite daddy.

Until then how about.... a cake! You thought I was going to say a tie, didn't you? Well how about tie cakes! Matt of Tiepedia wrote to me to tell me about his tie obsessed blog and how he's recently done a blog post on a bunch of great tie themed cakes. As baking is one of my hobbies I just had to see the different interpretations of this perennial Father's Day gift in cake form. What a great selection! All of the sudden I wanted to make a Father's Day cake! I know it won't happen this year but wouldn't it be cool to create a hawaiian tie, hula girl and all, on a tie cake? Thanks to Matt for the suggestion and have a happy Father's Day.

Green Door International Print Exchange

Throughout this year I've made a point of taking my work off-line and out into the world a little more. One way I've done this is through art exchanges with some of the fantastic artists I've met online. I'm getting quite the print collection I tell you. One of the more formally print exchanges I decided to participate in is called Green Door which is based in the U.K..

Green Door International Print Exchange is an all-inclusive exchange that maintains specific traditional printmaking criteria for the submissions. The print must be created solely for the exchange and not sold anywhere else. The edition is limited to ten which makes it easy to complete for the novice printmaker. I have heard good things about this exchange and I'm looking forward to seeing what I get back.

Below is my linocut submission, "Bank & Balloon" which gave me a little bit of a challenge in that it's the first multiple plate lino I've done. I hate having to register plates. I know all you reductive linocut printmakers are laughing at me right now.

Bank and Balloon

I would love to hear your thoughts on my piece and let me know if you'll be entering the exchange as well. There is still time to create something as the deadline is for August. Happy printmaking!

Showing in New York

Look out! I'm showing in New York! Are you impressed? I'd like to say this is the first of many future shows in the Big Apple but this one didn't take too much work to get into. My daughters ( 3 yr. and 6 yr.) and myself created some pieces for the 6"x6" show being held at the Rochester  Contemporary Art Center. This all inclusive show asks artists to create pieces no bigger than 6"x6" and sign them on the back to keep the creator anonymous. The pieces will be shown en masse starting June 5 until June 11 with each piece selling for $20. A wide variety of people have submitted and there are a few celebrity participants as well. This is a fundraiser for the center and it looks as though it's quite popular because there is a lottery system for priority purchasing. As well, online selling that will start on June 7th. You can view the 5,000 plus submissions here. There are a few I would like to put a twenty on.

Below are our submissions. Shhhhhhh. It's supposed to be anonymous. You won't tell anyone right?
