Submission Calls

Well hello there! I've been busy in the studio preparing for the Christmas season and some upcoming submission calls. Today I thought I'd let you know about some of those calls in case you'd like to join in the fun too.

I'm preparing some work for ArtBomb which is an online art auction site and I'm thrilled that it is a Canadian site. The work being offered seems to be quite varied so I'm going to give it a shot.

Next up is the Anonymous Art Show at the North Vancouver Community Art Gallery which will feature all original artwork on 8"x8" panels or canvasses. The deadline is November 2nd.

Hot Art Wet City has put out their call for their annual Hot One Inch Action which features the always popular one-night button trading show. The deadline is November 1.

The North Vancouver Community Art Council also has their Art Rental Programme call out. The jury days are October 20 and November 3 and you have to register ahead for a time slot. I better get on that.

Finally there is the 13th International Print Exhibit and Exchange through Proof Gallery. This year's theme is the Year of the Horse. I've got some ideas rolling around in my head but I think that I might try giving Kitchen Lithography a try again. I'll let you know how it goes.

So there you go. Now I better head back into the studio and get to work.

My beer mat submission to InkyGoodness

I just sent off one of my latest illustrations to the U.K. today. I saw a call that was sent out by Inky Goodness for original beer mat illustrations. For those of you on this side of the Atlantic a beer mat is a drink coaster. I had to Google it.

Because the entry fee was in my price range of "free", I set about doing some sketches. I got a few ideas that I will be coming back to later but the image below is the one I sent in. The goal for me again was to create the image digitally and quickly. Hopefully the jury will enjoy my happy little pig and it will make it into the off-line exhibition of 50 artists. All entries will posted online.
The deadline to submit for this show is June 29th so you might still have some time to great a beer mat of your own. Cheers!

100 Illustrations

With today's post I'm helping to put out the word about a project I submitted to recently. I saw a call for illustrators to submit to a book project call "100 Illustrations". I have been learning to use my Corel Paint program and I thought this might give me the perfect assignment to test my skills. I'm very new to digital illustration but I really appreciate the ability to make a mistake and correct it instantly. I have found it to be a great way to create sketches and color studies too as sometimes I think I'm too concerned with the cost of paint or paper to experiment. The other advantage to going digital is that I don't have such an issue with storage. Hoorah!

As of last count there are  86  spots left so there is plenty of time to submit an image of your favorite food. I love looking through compilations of artists work and I think this is a great theme. What do you think? Will everyone create an image of a cupcake?
